Doctors urge extra care as flu season arrives

JACKSON, Tenn. — Flu season is under way, and local doctors are hoping people prepare accordingly. Dr. Peter Gardner with Physician’s Quality Care says with the cooler weather germs can spread, and it’s important to use antibacterial wipes and wash hands often. Doctors also say this year the flu shot is much more effective than last year’s vaccine. “The shot this year is 50 percent more effective than last year’s,” Gardner said. “You cannot get the flu from the flu shot, so get it. Anybody 6 months of age or older can get the shot as long as they’re not allergic to eggs.” Doctors also say if you get the flu and are prescribed antibiotics, it’s important to take them.
