Judge: Trial for Holly Bobo suspects not likely in 2016

DECATUR COUNTY, Tenn. — Attorneys for the suspects in the Holly Bobo case were in court Wednesday morning. All three defendants waived their right to appear. The judge and attorneys both said they don’t expect a trial to take place in 2016. Attorneys said there is about four terabytes of data for discovery in the case — an enormous amount of information one defense attorney said, if printed, could fill four courtrooms full of boxes. “This isn’t a hide-the-ball situation,” Special Prosecutor Jennifer Nichols said. “It’s there, it’s there for them to go through and it’s to our benefit.” Attorneys for both the prosecution and defense say being able to get through all of the evidence is essential before starting the trial. “Council has described their case as like none other, and that’s because of the huge amounts of discovery, which is in excess I understand of four terabytes,” Judge Creed McGinley said. McGinley ordered a status hearing where he will determine how preparations are going for a trial along with scheduling of future hearings. That report date is set for 10 a.m. March 2.
