Tennessee company wins $174M contract for Texas reservoir
AUSTIN, Texas (AP) – A Tennessee company has won a $174 million contract to build the Lane City Reservoir in Southeast Texas.
The Lower Colorado River Authority board of directors Wednesday awarded the contract to Phillips & Jordan Inc. of Knoxville, Tennessee.
Ground was broken last December for the reservoir in Wharton County, leading to construction of test embankments and other site preparation work. The 1,100-acre Lane City Reservoir will be built off the main channel of the Colorado River near Lane City, about 50 miles southwest of Houston.
The Texas Water Development Board and LCRA are working together to issue $255 million in bonds to fund the project.
The reservoir is expected to be operating by 2018.
