Home invasion suspect arrested in Crockett County

CROCKETT COUNTY, Tenn. — A man suspected in a September home invasion that turned into a shootout has been arrested. Larry Polk was arrested Monday morning in Memphis after a traffic stop. Polk along with another person allegedly broke into a Crockett County home in September and started shooting. To the two suspects’ surprise, the homeowners had guns of their own. “Someone went to the Emerson’s home on Cherryville Road, kicked in the back door and immediately started shooting as they walked in the door, and a gunfight ensued between both of them,” Crockett County Sheriff Troy Klyce said. During the gunfire exchange, one of the victims was shot by the homeowner’s .40-caliber handgun. Sheriff Klyce says that’s what prompted them to look for a suspect with a gunshot wound. “We knew we had a gunshot wound victim in the hospital, but that doesn’t necessarily mean it was related to our case, but we were able to get ballistic evidence from the lab confirming that the bullet was indeed the one fired by Mr. Emerson,” Klyce said. Polk was arrested and charged with aggravated burglary, attempted first-degree murder and felony possession of a firearm. Polk is in custody of the Crockett County Sheriff’s Department. The other suspect in the incident has not been named.
