Liberty begins preparartion for state champions

JACKONS, Tenn. — It’s been 36 years since a football team from the Jackson-Madison County School System played a for a state championship. JCM finished as runners-up in 1979. Liberty Tech can end that drought on Friday in Nashville, but it won’t be easy. “They’re every bit good as advertised or better,” head coach Tyler Turner said on Monday about CPA. “You don’t lose five games in the last five years and not be good.” CPA’s biggest victory during that run came last year against Alcoa. The Lions beat the state powerhouse 7-6 for the Class 3A State Championship. “They’re the reigning state champions,” Turner said. “If you can beat them, you have the chance to compete. They’re a really good football team. They’re a state championship caliber football team.” Undefeated Liberty Tech has played like a state championship contender all season long as well. The Crusaders just gave up their first touchdown and only points the entire postseason against Milan in the state quarterfinals. “If the defense keeps playing like it’s capable of, we have a chance,” Turner said. “We’ll be ready to go.”
