TWRA calls first weekend of deer season a success

JACKSON, Tenn. — Deer rifle season opened over the weekend, and the Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency said they’ve been keeping a close eye on hunters and their harvest. Over the weekend, officials said they were out at checking stations to look at the game hunters brought in. Agents send in parts of some deer for testing to make sure herds are healthy. “In Region 1, which is 25 counties, there were about 6,700 deer harvested on the 2-day weekend,” Daniel Stanfield with the TWRA said. “Out of these numbers, about 57 percent were antler harvest.” As the season continues into January, experts said to make sure you’re covered in the proper amount of orange and to make sure you’re allowed to be on the property where you’re hunting.
