Husband, wife indicted for Medicaid fraud
JACKSON, Miss. (AP) — A husband and wife have been arrested after being indicted on two counts each of felonious identity theft and two counts each of felonious Medicaid fraud.
Attorney General Jim Hood, in a news release, said 55-year-old James Jefferson Jr. and his wife, 53-year-old Pamela T. Jefferson, of Crystal Springs, were arrested Monday.
Hood says the couple owned and operated Garden of Angels, LLC and is accused of using the identity of a doctor and a licensed clinical social worker to bill Medicaid for services that neither professional provided.
The indictment charges that about 269 false claims totaling over $408,000 were filed against Medicaid in 2013 and 2014.
The Jeffersons were booked into the Hinds County Detention Center. It was unknown if either has an attorney.
