Peabody thankful for tough journey

TRENTON, Tenn. — It’s a privilege to be practicing on Thanksgiving Eve, and Peabody’s football team is very thankful for the opportunity. The Golden Tide know they’re doing something right if they’re still playing during this time of the year. “It’s a blessing to make it this far. Not too many teams make it to this round,” senior Keyvon Goodwin said. Fellow classmate James Green agrees. “It’s wonderful. I love it,” Green said. “It feels good to be playing.” A win on Friday against Nashville Christian would give the Golden Tide their second consecutive state championship appearance. Nashville Christian is no slouch. This is the Eagles fourth consecutive trip to the state semifinals. All of those contests ended in loses to West Tennessee schools. “They’re some big strong guys,” Goodwin said. “But I think we can beat them with our speed that we have at the skill position. I think it will be a pretty good game.” Getting this far hasn’t been easy for Trenton. The Golden Tide beat both Union City and Dresden away from home to return to the semifinals. “We’re a pretty good team,” Goodwin said. “We lost to them earlier in the season. I felt like we weren’t at our peak yet. Those games showed us we can make it back to state.”
