TCA’s Goldsmith ruled out for semifinals

NORTHWEST JACKSON, TENN. — TCA will be missing an essential player in their Class 2A State semifinals game against Memphis Trezevant. Senior quarterback Andrew Goldsmith won’t play on Friday, according to head coach Blake Butler. The Mr. Football Finalist has a PCL Grade 2 sprain after last week’s win against McKenzie. “What that essentially means he’s going to take a little time off, but he’s not going to need surgery,” Butler said. “He’s done a lot to get us to this point.” The team has rallied around Goldsmith during this difficult time. Goldsmith received news about his minor knee injury on Tuesday. Taking over the quarterback duties in the Lions first-ever home state semifinals game is junior Tristan Bonstetter. Bonstetter started started the season as the Lions quarterback before Goldsmith took over in Week 5. Butler says Goldsmith is handling the news like a true leader. “All kids dream about playing in big football games, and breaking records,” Butler said. “When he initially got the news, he was a little bit down. He’s had a really positive attitude, trying to help and build the guys up, and being a team captain. I wouldn’t expect anything less of him.”
