Deputies use Taser on 72-year-old woman during standoff
CANTON, Miss. (AP) – Deputies say they used a Taser on a 72-year-old woman during a four-hour standoff.
The Madison County Sheriff’s Department tells the Clarion-Ledger a man called deputies Sunday asking for assistance to reach his mother.
Deputies say they responded to a residence in Canton and tried to get the woman to come to the door. After failing to respond, they entered the home.
Authorities say the woman barricaded herself in a bathroom, armed with a revolver.
Sheriff Randy Tucker says deputies exited the home to implement a plan to address the situation. They later entered the home again and used a Taser to take the woman into custody.
Tucker says she was taken to a hospital for evaluation.
Authorities have not provided additional details and have not released her name.
