Knoxville Vietnam veterans plan return trip

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (AP) – A group of Knoxville veterans will be traveling to Vietnam for a weeklong trip.

The Knoxville News Sentinel reports a group of 18 people, mostly veterans but including a few others, are flying to Vietnam on Tuesday.

Organizer and Army veteran Ron Kirby is the only one in the group who has returned to the country since the Vietnam War, having made three return visits. He says he believes the trip will be “a healing thing” for some veterans and “might kill some ghosts.”

During the trip, they will stay in Ho Chi Minh City, which is close to where many on the trip were stationed.

Kirby says his trips to Vietnam have also put things in perspective and helped him see what he shares with a former enemy.
