CAMDEN, Tenn. — At least one person has been airlifted after a three-vehicle accident involving a cement truck in Camden. The accident on Highway 70 involved a cement truck and two pickup trucks, according to Camden police. Police on scene said three people were injured in the accident and that at least one of them was airlifted. Officers said all victims are now in stable condition. Crews have cleared the scene, and the road is open to traffic. Benton County authorities also were addressing a large amount of diesel fuel that was spilled. “We’ve spilled probably 50 to 60 gallons of diesel fuel here in this parking lot,” Emergency Management Director of Benton County, Richard Kee told WBBJ on the scene Friday. “We’ve got it covered with some oil absorbent.” The cement truck stopped just feet short of a business located off Highway 70. The store’s owner, Peter Lewis, says he was one of the first on the scene. “It was heart wrenching to say the least,” Lewis said. “I see people’s injuries, blood running. I saw the trauma.” “The scariest part to me was it didn’t have to stop where it did,” Lewis said. “Had it not been for the power of God, it could have hit the truck. It could have hit the building.” Police say the cement truck was empty when the crash occurred and that if it had been full things could have been much worse. Officers told WBBJ they are requesting the Tennessee Highway Patrol’s post-crash team to assist with the investigation. So far, no charges have been filed.
