Local sorority holds “Pink Out” to raise money for breast cancer research

JACKSON, Tenn. — The sisters of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc., hosted a “Pink Out” fundraiser at McAlister’s Deli, Thursday evening. As part of the event, the restaurant donated 10 percent of all purchases made between 5:00 and 9:00 p.m. to breast cancer research. The ladies, who acted as unofficial servers, said they hope their service can be an example. “We hope our presence here will help men and women learn more about breast cancer,” said Kimberly Hicks, president of the sorority’s chapter. “We want them to make doctor appointments and do self examinations.” About fifty members of the sorority volunteered throughout the evening.
