Mom, 3 kids, neighbor killed in apartment fire in Kentucky
MAYSVILLE, Ky. (AP) – The fire chief in a northern Kentucky town says a woman, three of her children and a neighbor were killed in a fire at a set of apartment buildings.
Maysville Fire Chief Kevin Doyle didn’t give names or ages of those killed in the blaze Tuesday. But neighbor Ruth Austen, who was awakened as flames spread, says the woman went back inside to try to save her kids.
Austen says the father tried to go back inside, too, but authorities stopped him.
Doyle didn’t confirm whether the woman went back inside but says “the father was in and out of the building several times.”
Doyle says the father and two other children escaped. Doyle says the home didn’t have working smoke detectors.
Officials say the cause of isn’t known.
