String of thefts have Crockett Co. deputies on ‘high alert’
CROCKETT COUNTY, Tenn. — Officials are searching for more than $100,000 in stolen vehicles and equipment. Deputies said in the past three weeks they’ve had at least four similar thefts. “I think they’re staking these out and really doing their homework before they do anything,” Crockett County Sheriff Troy Klyce said. Between the thefts, ATVs, trucks, trailers and four-wheelers have been taken. Sheriff Klyce said one of the largest thefts happened at Fincher Farms. According to dispatch logs, Congressman Stephen Fincher reported his shop had been broken into and several items stolen including a 2014 pickup truck and Grizzly ATV, the report listed. “I think there’s a lot of people involved in it,” Klyce said. “Probably what you’ll see before it’s all over with, these aren’t your typical criminals.” Klyce said two thefts also have happened this week in Alamo less than a mile apart from each other. He said the criminal could be dangerous and possibly out to commit other crimes. “Every time there’s a stolen truck and trailer in West Tennessee, we have to be on high alert because you just about know something is going to happen,” Klyce said. Klyce is encouraging residents to lock up their items. “That doesn’t mean they’re not going to steal it, but what they’re really looking for is something they can get fast.” If you have information on these thefts or see something suspicious in your area, call the Crockett County Sheriff’s Office at 731-696-2104.
