Students, workers rally at UTM, protest governor’s privatization plan

MARTIN, Tenn.-Dozens of University of Tennessee at Martin students and workers rallied this evening in protest of Governor Haslam’s proposed privatization plan. The rally was Tuesday evening in front of the UTM Administration Building. The governor seeks to privatize some jobs at state universities and parks. Protesters said that would change the culture of the Martin campus by bringing in an outside organization to replace its current facilities staff. Governor Haslam said privatization could save the state nearly $13 million. There is no time frame for a decision.
