Veterans Day program spotlight’s Tennessee’s Alvin York
JACKSON, Tenn.-Veterans Day is Wednesday, but local veterans were celebrated with a program Monday at the Double Tree Hotel in west Jackson. The speaker gave a talk on Alvin C. York, considered to be one of the most decorated soldiers of the U.S. Army during World War I. York, a Tennessee native, received a Medal of Honor and numerous other awards for his service. “You want to think about his convictions about the extent to which he struggled to decide whether or not to fight. That he saw that there was sort of two sides to the conflict and that he wasn’t necessarily in favor of it,” said Martin Kane, education specialist with Discovery Park of America.
