Sheriff buys new vehicle with drug fund money
McNAIRY COUNTY, Tenn. — As drug dealers in McNairy County are being put behind bars, any proceeds from drug sales and weapons are helping out the county’s law enforcement.
The sheriff’s office was just able to add a Dodge Durango to its fleet, and the sheriff says it’s fueled through court fines and the selling of seized guns and vehicles. Just as a reminder to the felons, the vehicles all say, “Paid for by the drug dealers of McNairy County.”
Since the program started, the sheriff’s office said they’ve been able to buy anything from supplies they need to other vehicles. With the program, taxpayers said it’s great to see tax dollars going to other parts of the community.
With a limited budget, the sheriff said they’ve had to think outside the box to get what they need.
Each year, tens of thousands of dollars from the fund buys laptops, bulletproof vests, and other items the county may not otherwise be able to afford. It all helps officers be more equipped to catch the next criminal.
The sheriff’s office has been able to buy at least 14 cars now with the fund.
