GIBSON COUNTY, Tenn. — Deputies have identified a man killed in a Sunday afternoon shooting outside Humboldt.

Kenneth Wayne Vailes, 52, was found fatally wounded when deputies responded around 4:30 p.m. Sunday to a reported disturbance at a residence in the 200 block of Pleasant Hill Road, according to Chief Deputy Danny Lewis with the Gibson County Sheriff’s Department.

A person of interest in the homicide, Michael Thomason, 56, was killed Monday morning in an officer-involved shooting when investigators were searching for him on a family member’s property, the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation has confirmed.
