THP announces seat belt fine increase

JACKSON, Tenn. — You’ve heard the saying “click it or ticket,” and the Tennessee Highway Patrol wants to remind you those ticket fines will increase starting Jan. 1.

First-time violators can expect to pay a $25. For repeat offenders, the fine could be as high as $50.

With more than 100,000 seat belt citations given out already this year, troopers say they just want drivers to stay safe on the roads.
