Family & budget friendly activities abound across West Tenn.
JACKSON, Tenn. — Looking for ways to enjoy the winter holiday and not break the bank?
Some parents said there’s only a few requirements for enjoying a holiday break as a family — “Have fun,” Bobby Ann Crawford said.
Holli Teubener said don’t spend too much time in a car. “I try to look at no more than two and a half hours from home,” she said.
An adventurous family can head to the Safari Park in Alamo.
Staff said from ostriches to camels, the park will have plenty of animals for visitors to enjoy during the break.
The park will be closed on Christmas Eve and Christmas Day.
There are plenty of free events across West Tennessee for families looking to keep a little jingle in their pockets.
The Jackson-Madison County Library will have story time with Santa on Friday, Dec. 18. “We’ll have lots of crafts, cookies, songs, stories,” children’s librarian Jennifer Brewer said.
On Tuesday the 22nd, the library will host a Grinch day with a showing of the film and arts and crafts.”Anyone can come,” Brewer said.
Teubener said she likes to keep her family “fun budget” in check by packing lunches for day trips. She said her family will be heading to Chickasaw State Park during one of the vacation days. “We’ve got a sketchbook, and I’ve got new colored pencils,” she said. “We’re going to take a nature hike and sketch.”
Beginning Monday the 21st, Lexington’s Princess Theatre will show two Christmas films through Wednesday the 23rd for free. Screenings include “Home Alone,” “The Polar Express” and “White Christmas.” Shows are scheduled for 2 p.m. and 7:15 p.m. each day.
