Local organization prepares for Christmas dinner giveaway

NORTH JACKSON, Tenn. — Members of the Elk Lodge are preparing to spread the Christmas spirit among Jackson residents in need. This program has been apart of the elk tradition for the past 100 years.

“This is our 110th year to do Christmas baskets for the needy and less fortunate here in Jackson and Madison County,” said Jackson Elk President, Rusty Schrivner.

This program, which allows Elk members to help more than 200 needy families in need. Elk Member Steve Fowler said the motivation to continue the program comes from giving the community a helping hand. “There’s not a better feeling then going up to a grandmother with a couple of kids, and giving them some food. It’ll only last them a day or too, but it’s something.”

The Elks don’t only help with Christmas  dinner. The organization helps a variety of charity year round, including the Susan G. Koeman breast cancer foundation.

Next year will mark the 125th anniversary of the Elks organization.
