Former Jackson officer’s assault sentencing delayed
JACKSON, Tenn. — A former Jackson police officer found guilty last month of a misdemeanor count stemming from a rape case will have to wait until the new year to learn his punishment.
Lamont Gray was found guilty of assault by offensive touching during his November trial.
A woman alleged Gray forced himself on her inside her apartment in April of 2014.
Gray was supposed to be sentenced Monday, but with a written victim’s statement given to the judge Monday and a new request by Gray, the sentencing was delayed.
“He is applying for diversion or seeking judicial diversion here today, and in order for me to consider that I need to review in this entire pre-sentence report, and I want to go back and view the victim impact statement,” Madison County Circuit Court Judge Don Allen said.
Gray is scheduled to appear in court Jan. 4 for his sentencing.
