Weather Update – 4:30 p.m. Christmas Eve

With temperatures in the low to mid 70s, the thermometer certainly isn’t agreeing with the calendar. Though this isn’t the warmest Christmas Eve we’ve ever had in West Tennessee, it’s still over 20 degrees above average! We’ll be monitoring a warm front as it moves north into West Tennessee overnight and ultimately pushes through the Mid-South during the start of the weekend.

Tonight, skies will start out clear and conditions will be dry but we could see mostly cloudy skies after midnight followed by scattered showers and thunderstorms. Some of these thunderstorms could become strong with frequent lightning. A severe thunderstorm isn’t out of the realm of possibility either, and any storms that do become severe could contain damaging winds and large hail. Temperatures will drop to the 50s overnight and warm up to the mid and upper 60s during Christmas Day.

Scattered showers and thunderstorms will be possible all day tomorrow but are especially likely in the morning. The warm front will finally move north of West Tennessee by Saturday afternoon. This will keep West Tennessee in a warm and wet pattern through Sunday before a cold front pushes into the region on Monday. At that time, West Tennessee could see severe weather again but it’s too early to tell how bad it could be and where the greatest threats will materialize. Stay with the VIPIR 7 Storm Team for updates to this forecast.

Merry Christmas!
