2 men dead; car hit tree, caught fire in D’Iberville

D’IBERVILLE, Miss. (AP) – Authorities in Harrison County say two men are dead after their car slammed into a tree and caught fire in D’Iberville (dee-EYE-ber-vil).

Police Chief Wayne Payne tells The Sun Herald that the driver and passenger both died on the scene about 1:30 a.m. Sunday just south of D’Iberville High School.

County Coroner Gary Hargrove says the car caught fire, and both bodies were badly burned.

He says he’s sending the bodies to the Mississippi Forensics Laboratory in Jackson to determine their identities.

Payne says cause of the crash is still being investigated, and the Biloxi Police Department’s accident reconstruction team is helping.
