Gibson Co. S.O. offers rides home New Year’s eve

GIBSON COUNTY, Tenn.-If you are heading out this New Year’s Eve, one West Tennessee Sheriff’s Department is offering free rides, not to jail, but to your home.

For the second year, the Gibson County Sheriff’s Department will be picking up those who have had a little too much to drink around the county. Sheriff Paul Thomas said for every person that uses the service, it is that much more of a chance a life might be saved on the road.

“That’s the ultimate goal. We know we’re not going to stop them from drinking. We know we’re not going to stop them from celebrating New year’s, so we’re not attempting to do that. We’re just offering them a solution to let us take them home and protect the people traveling,”said Gibson County Sheriff Pauld Thomas

Last year officers said about 10 people used the service. If you need a ride Thursday night, there are no strings attached. Just call the Gibson County Sheriff’s Dept at (731) 855-1121.
