West Jackson businesses brace for floodwaters

WEST JACKSON — Area businesses in west Jackson say they’re watching the rising Forked Deer River waters that could threaten their buildings.

In the Westover Road area, business owners say history shows there’s a good chance floodwaters will do heavy damage to their buildings.

Those we spoke with say if the water doesn’t stop rising it could be harmful to everyone nearby.

“[To] this whole area and this community and all the surrounding businesses and neighbors, it’s pretty dangerous,” dispatcher Steve Cary said.

Business owners say they already have sandbags in case flood waters do reach their buildings.
