Hub City residents celebrate the new year

JACKSON, Tenn. — Emily Strope and her friends have decided to start a new tradition of ringing in the new year. “Several of us are here tonight to celebrate. I just think that the Tavern is really representative of downtown. The old building, and the fun people that hang out here,” said Strope.

Going to a bar is something new for Strope. For others, going to a bars like Miss Ollies is a tradition that has been going on for years. “I came last year, I came the year before. It’s always a good time. They’re gonna have a good band tonight. It’s all gonna be a good time. Good New Year’s,” said Jackson Resident Brandon Sells.

Bars are not the only place where people can celebrate the clock’s countdown. For those looking for a more family friendly environment, Skyzone will be having a new year’s party. “We just looked around and there wasn’t a whole lot of family entertainment going on on new years eve. So we just wanted to offer a place where you can bring your entire family,” said Skyzone General Manager, S.L. Pemberton.

The Skyzone New Year’s celebration will feature a live DJ, a balloon drop, and a black light jumping section. It is also, according to Pemberton, the only Skyzone in the county to be hosting the celebration. “It’s 105 Skyzones in the United States, and certainly as far as I can tell, we’re the only one doing a New Year’s party tonight.”

However, Strope said she is satisfied right where she is. “I think this is the place to be tonight here in Jackson. You know downtown is really booming.”
