Officials alert residents of rise in river, lake levels
DOVER, Tenn. (AP) – Officials are alerting communities along the Tennessee and Cumberland rivers that river levels will rise over the next few days.
The Leaf-Chronicle reports the Tennessee Valley Authority and the Army Corps of Engineers will begin to hold back water to ease flooding downstream.
Stewart County Mayor Rick Joiner says residents need to prepare for flooding as the water will back up.
The National Weather Service issued a river flood advisory Wednesday afternoon for the Cumberland River at Dover.
The TVA also announced on Tuesday that the gates on the Kentucky Dam at the Tennessee River are expected to close on Jan. 2. The closure will create a rise of area lake levels over the next few weeks.
Joiner says officials will address any emergency situations should they arise.
