Youth Empowerment Summit rings in ’16

JACKSON, Tenn.-The word has been out for weeks inviting everyone to the Youth Empowerment Summit this New Year’s Eve.

Thursday night, hundreds of youth and their parents gathered at the Carl Perkins Civic Center for a concert like no other.
Singers, rappers and even local youth choirs performed at the event.

Jackson city councilman Johnny Dodd explained why an event like this is so important for the community.

“Going into the new year, it’s time to celebrate. The city’s gonna come together. We’ll have peace in our city and our youth is going to rejoice and have a good time tonight,” said Councilman Dodd.

The Youth Empowerment Summit was sponsored by Pastor Mychal Hunt and Radical Nation, the City of Jackson and the Jackson Police Department.
