Local church cleans up Pope Elementary

JACKSON, Tenn. — On the second day of 2016, instead of taking a long, relaxing weekend, one local church decided to start their near year giving back.

SoulQuest Church members battled the cold Saturday afternoon to “love” on Pope Elementary.

β€œIt’s amazing starting the New Year off with my church family knowing that we are doing something great,” church member Adam Perry said. β€œWe are working here at pope elementary trying to get the parking lots cleaned up, stripes painted for the kids and the teachers and everything and Β trying to move the tables up closer so the kids have somewhere to sit.”

β€œThis is a great time of year to start the year off right and not just talking about serving but actually serving,” Pastor Ronnie Coleman said.

Pastor Coleman said their main goal Saturday was to re-stripe the parking lot.

β€œThe principal has told us that it’s really hectic when people areΒ picking up their kids in the afternoon the stripes are pretty much gone and they are putting hairs out and ropes out to try and keep it coordinated so by us striping the parking lot I think it is gonna help a lot,” he said.

This isn’t a new years resolution for the church, though, community service is a part of who they are and this is just a great way to start their year off.

β€œIt’s kind of in our DNA. We don’t want to be a church that just shows up and gathers Β and worships. We want to bring it outside the four walls of the church,” Pastor Coleman said.

Pastor Coleman said they like to focus on the Jackson community, and serving Pope Elementary was an obvious choice.

β€œWe meet right down the street here at the star center that’s where we meet so we just thought there was not better place to start than right here next door to where we are,” he said.
