Courtroom outburst ends with more prison time for convict
JACKSON, Tenn. — What started out as a hearing to request a new trial ended with an emotional outburst, Monday.
Harold Vaughn and his attorney appeared before Circuit Court Judge Don Allen where they asked the court to vacate his conviction and grant a new trial. Vaughn was convicted in October of 2015 of attempted first-degree murder, aggravated assault and especially aggravated robbery. He was sentenced to 25 years. The charges stemmed from a November 2014 incident, where a man was shot five times after being offered a ride from a Jackson truck stop. Investigators said Vaughn and two others were responsible.
When Judge Allen denied Vaughn’s request, he started yelling and cursing the judge. Deputies inside the courtroom warned him once and escorted him out the second time.
Because of his outburst, Judge Allen added 10 days of jail time for contempt of court.
