Screen Shot 2016-01-05 at 4.30.18 PMThe Jackson Police Department and the state are asking you to fill out a survey. The goal is to find out how the state can better serve victims’ needs.

The Tennessee Office of Criminal Justice Programs tracks the state’s needs in identifying the justice system’s shortfalls. They currently are gathering information on victims of crime in Tennessee so they can determine what kind of programs and funding different communities need to help those affected by crime.

“The data that they collect from these surveys is really important in that it will decide how future funding is delegated in the state, not necessarily where it’s delegated but what it needs to be delegated for and where the priorities for that should be,” Jackson Police Department Capt. Mike Holt said.

Holt said surveys like this help fund places like the Safe Hope Center and help meet needs that aren’t being met.

“And you’re standing in a successful partnership with the state Office of Criminal Justice Programs to a family justice center.” Holt said.

The survey is for those who have been affected by any kind of crime. It can be completed anonymously and only takes around 10 minutes.

“That’s also what they are going to be looking at here is what kind of victim-oriented services do we need to be looking at two years from now based on what’s happening today,” Holt said.
