Awnings, marquees may be classified as signage in Oxford

OXFORD, Miss. (AP) – Oxford planning officials have been tweaking the city’s sign ordinance, and more tweaks could be coming.

The Oxford Eagle reports the Oxford planning department presented proposed changes to the sign ordinance to the Courthouse Square Historic Preservation Commission for its review during its regular meeting Monday night.

The ordinance would add awnings, marquees and window decals to the definition of signage on a building. It would also add those signs into the calculation of the number of signs on a lot.

City commissions are also reviewing changes to the city’s Certificate of Appropriateness applications that are filled out by homeowners and developers when seeking approval for changes to buildings in the historic districts. Proposed changes include listing all required documentation on the COA applications and changing the fee schedule.
