West Tenn. sheriff encourages permit holders to carry guns
HENDERSON COUNTY, Tenn. — In response to President Obama’s executive order on gun control Tuesday, a West Tennessee sheriff is encouraging residents to continue exercising their right to carry a gun.
Sheriff Brian Duke in Henderson County took to Facebook Tuesday night, posting a statement asking those who legally carry handguns to continue to do so.
Sheriff Duke says the post originally came from the Tennessee Firearms Association, and with talk over the Second Amendment resurfacing he felt it was a good time to share it.
“I think in any jurisdiction those people who have taken the time to go through the permit application process and have obtained those permits, I want to encourage them to carry. That was the whole purpose in them getting those permits,” Duke said.
A number of other West Tennessee sheriffs have posted the same message.
