Former Lafayette County employee sentenced
JACKSON, Miss. (AP) – A former Lafayette County worker will serve two years in prison after pleading guilty to embezzlement.
State Auditor Stacey Pickering, in a news release Wednesday, said Heather Thomas Peters, of Oxford, had five years of her seven-year sentence suspended, so she’ll only serve two in the custody of the Mississippi Department of Corrections. She also was ordered to pay $25,981 in restitution.
Peters was arrested last March on charges of embezzling public funds. She was accused of embezzling almost $1,800 from the District Attorney’s Bad Check Unit, and charged another $2,000 on a government Wal-Mart credit card.
