Juan Williams set to speak at MLK event in Mississippi
JACKSON, Miss. (AP) – National political analyst Juan Williams is scheduled to speak at a civil-rights event in Mississippi’s capital city.
The Jan. 15 convocation at Jackson State University is to mark the birthday of the late Rev. Martin Luther King Jr. The free event is sponsored by the university’s Margaret Walker Center for the Study of the African-American Experience.
After the convocation, the center will hold a $20-per-ticket luncheon to present its For My People Awards for contributions to African-American history and culture. The award is named for one of Walker’s poems.
The awards are also being presented to Williams; the Ida B. Wells-Barnett Museum in Holly Springs; the Emmett Till Interpretive Center in Sumner; and the Beta Delta Omega Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority.
