3 nominees forwarded to Haslam for judicial vacancy
MEMPHIS, Tenn. (AP) – The Governor’s Council for Judicial Appointments has forwarded names of three nominees for a circuit court vacancy in West Tennessee.
The vacancy is in the 30th Judicial District, which serves Shelby County. The vacancy was created last year by the death of Judge D’Army Bailey.
The Tennessee Supreme Court said in a news release the council met Thursday to consider seven applicants for the opening.
The nominees are Frank S. Cantrell of Memphis, JoeDae L. Jenkins of Bartlett and Valerie L. Smith of Memphis.
The council forwarded the names to Gov. Bill Haslam. Any person appointed will serve through August, when an election will be held to fill the remaining six years of the eight-year term.
