Recycle your Christmas tree this weekend at ‘Chipping of the Green’
JACKSON, Tenn. — Hub City residents looking to ditch their Christmas tree this weekend have a unique chance to recycle.
Master gardeners helping out the “Keep Jackson Beautiful” initiative will be on hand at the Jackson Fire Station training center in front of the fairgrounds from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. Saturday to handle any Christmas trees stripped of their lights and ornaments.
Each tree will be chipped up for mulch and bagged, free of charge.
“It’s a family community thing. It also saves space in the landfill and part of our mission is reuse, reduce and recycle,” said Jodi Jacobs, planning coordinator with Keep Jackson Beautiful.
During last year’s Chipping of the Green, nearly 800 trees were chipped up rather than simply dumped at local landfills.
