Weather Update – 10:30 p.m. Friday

The latest models are in and it still looks like an umbrella will be a handy item to have on Saturday with a 100% chance for rain. There’s also a chance for thunderstorms as an area of low pressure closes in on West Tennessee tomorrow morning and afternoon. Some of these storms could be strong but after the low pressure system and a cold front move east, we might see this rain *briefly* change over to snow.

Tonight will be a mild and breezy night with a slight chance for scattered showers. Temperatures will only drop to the upper 40s and low 50s Saturday morning before warming up to the mid and upper 50s on Saturday afternoon. We’ll have a better chance for more widespread showers and some thunderstorms by sunrise Saturday as the rain moves from southwest to northeast across West Tennessee. Rain will continue to be possible throughout the day with a chance for one or two strong or severe thunderstorms in parts of southwest Tennessee and northern Mississippi. The main threats to watch out for will be with large hail and damaging winds.

After sunset, the temperatures will drop behind the cold front as it moves east. This will bring a change from rain to snow across parts of northwest Tennessee. This could result in a dusting of snow on lawns and elevated surfaces like bushes, tree branches, and porches in northwest Tennessee. Roads should be okay as ground temperatures will still be above freezing on Sunday morning.

ForecastSnowfall_01082016

Sunday will be a cold day with high temperatures in the upper 20s to low 30s despite sunshine returning Sunday afternoon. We’ll be dropping into the teens and low 20s on Sunday night.

Have a wonderful weekend, and stay weather aware!
