Weather Update – 6:00 p.m. Friday
This weekend, West Tennessee can expect weather to swing from one end of the spectrum to the other in a matter of hours. While tomorrow has a chance to be warm and stormy, our weekend will end with cold and clear conditions. An oncoming cold front will also bring with it a chance for a few snow showers Saturday night, so here we go…
Tonight will be another mild night with low temperatures in the mid to upper 40s and low 50s. The chance for rain will increase after midnight into sunrise at which point we’ll likely have rain along the Mississippi River. There could be a few thunderstorms in the first group of rain that moves in but we’ll have a better chance for lightning from the later hours of the morning through the afternoon. Some of the thunderstorms that develop could become strong or even severe with a chance for damaging winds and large hail in them. There’s also a possibility, albeit low, for an isolated tornado – but again that chance is low. Temperatures will peak in the mid to upper 50s tomorrow before the cold front arrives.
After the cold front moves through, some of the light lingering rain showers may change over to snow. Northwest Tennessee will be the area likeliest to see this happen after 10pm Saturday and before 6am Sunday. West Tennessee road ways won’t likely be affected, but one or two tenths of an inch of snow may accumulate on your lawn or on the trees and bushes in your area – if you live in northwest Tennessee. Otherwise, accumulation isn’t expected.
Sunday will be a cold day with high temperatures in the low to mid 30s despite sunshine returning Sunday afternoon. We’ll be dropping into the teens and low 20s on Sunday night.
Have a wonderful weekend, and stay weather aware!
