Corinth nurse charged with Medicaid fraud
CORINTH, Miss. (AP) – An Alcorn County nurse practitioner accused of Medicaid fraud has surrendered to authorities.
The Northeast Mississippi Daily Journal (http://bit.ly/1mJLkFg ) reports 55-year-old Tami Bivens-Johnson, of Corinth, turned herself into authorities Friday.
Bivens-Johnson was recently indicted by an Alcorn County Grand Jury on three counts of felonious Medicaid fraud. According to the charges, Bivens-Johnson presented fraudulent claims for more than $3,200 in Medicaid benefits.
The first count alleges consultations done over the phone but billed as office visits. The other two counts are for claims filed for services while she was out of state.
Bivens-Johnson faces 15 years in prison and $150,000 in fines if convicted.
Bond was set at $10,000. It was unknown if she has an attorney who could comment on the case.
