Louisville council members want curfew reviewed
LOUISVILLE, Ky. (AP) – Metro Council members in Louisville are planning to ask state lawmakers to amend a law that forbids Louisville police from fully enforcing curfew.
The request stems from last month’s disturbance at Mall St. Matthews by a large group of teenagers.
The Courier-Journal (cjky.it/1kVcxmG) reports that the council’s Republican caucus has reviewed a draft letter that says state reforms to reduce youth incarceration prevent police from detaining youths and informing parents or guardians about their behavior.
Councilwoman Angela Leet says city leaders haven’t done enough to spearhead needed changes since a group of teens led a melee through Waterfront Park and downtown Louisville two years ago.
Mayor Greg Fischer’s office says the administration has been working with state Rep. Denny Butler and the Jefferson County attorney’s office on the issue.
