Sportsplex hosts job fair to fill positions

More than 200 people will be hired to work at the Sportsplex part-time

JACKSON, Tenn. — Saturday morning, people from all over West Tennessee attended the job fair at the West Tennessee Healthcare Sportsplex.

“I like baseball and all kinds of sports and I needed a Summer job and this just seemed real fun, ” said 16-year old applicant Hannah Jordan.

“I’m looking forward to work with the grounds crew,” said high school senior Fort Jones. “And getting  some money for college.”

Heading into their 10th season, more than 200 part-time workers are needed for the concession stand, gift shop and grounds crew.

“We’re always needing additional people,” said Fowler. “Because we get pretty busy out here.”

Hannah Jordan said her dad didn’t force her to come out, but  had an interesting tactic to get her to apply.

“He called it a date and wanted me to get some experience,” said Jordan.

With money as motivation, a few adults were also looking to make some extra cash.

I love to see all the kids play, and this is the first year I haven’t been carting one of the grandchildren around,” said Brenda Wade.  “Also hopefully when I do retire I’ll have something else to do.”

Even though the job fair is over, folks who are still interested have until Mid-February to apply.

“Those that weren’t able to come out today for the job fair, you can go to the city’s website and download an application, fill it out and take it by city hall,” said Fowler.

Because working at the Sportsplex is a city job, a criminal background check will be performed and there is the possibility of random drug testing.
