Neighbors along Lafayette Street said they heard a gunshot around 7:30 p.m. Friday but didn’t realize what had happened until police arrived.

Bolivar police declined to comment on camera but did confirm the arrest of Jammy Harbin.

Investigators say he shot a man who lived at the home, which is owned by Harbin and his wife. Police said their son and his roommate lived there.

Police said the roommate was the one who was fatally shot. Harbin has since been charged with second-degree murder.

Bolivar Mayor Barrett Stevens released a statement Monday regarding the shooting.

“It is a sad day for our city to see violence that takes the life of one of our citizens,” Stevens states in the release. “Multiple families are grieving right now and have suffered a loss. There are no words or actions that can change that. Our thoughts and prayers are with both families.”

Investigators have yet to say what may have led to the deadly violence.
