Harrison County joins high-speed Internet initiative
BILOXI, Miss. (AP) – Harrison County officials have signed on to a high-speed Internet project aimed at bringing affordable and accessible high-speed Internet to all residents and businesses across the Gulf Coast.
The Sun Herald reports Harrison County supervisors signed onto the Gulf Coast Broadband Initiative on Monday.
All five cities in Harrison County have already joined the agreement. Biloxi officials have said they expect all 12 cities and three counties to eventually be part of the project.
The project looks to develop a fiber ring across all three counties and allow businesses and residents to benefit from faster download and upload speeds.
Gov. Phil Bryant pledged $5 million from the BP oil spill settlement toward the initiative.
In joining the agreement, the county did not immediately pledge any money toward the project.
