Criminal complaint filed in high school basketball rape
CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. (AP) – Three high school officials have been charged with failing to report the sexual abuse of four basketball players.
The criminal complaint filed by the Hamilton County District Attorney’s Office on Thursday reveals a far broader assault than authorities had previously announced.
The complaint says that four freshman boys were apparently sexually abused, with one requiring emergency surgery for injuries.
Gatlinburg Police have charged three male Ooltewah High School basketball teammates with the aggravated rape of one player, but have not announced any other charges in connection to the Dec. 22 incident.
No one responded immediately to a message left Thursday afternoon on the voicemail of a police department investigator.
An attorney for the school district said he could not comment because he had not reviewed the charges.
