Officials: DNA confirms ID of 82-year-old house fire victim
GULFPORT, Miss. (AP) – Officials say DNA has confirmed the identity of an 82-year-old woman who died in a Gulfport house fire.
Harrison County Coroner Gary Hargrove told the Sun Herald on Thursday that Lillie Mae Williams died Jan. 6 in a fire at her home.
Hargrove says an autopsy shows Williams died of smoke inhalation.
Fire officials said her home was engulfed in flames when firefighters responded to a call for help. Officials say her body was found in the home after crews put out the blaze.
The home was destroyed.
Officials said the fire started in the living room and was caused by an electrical outlet that had several devices plugged into it, including a space heater.
