School officials expect new Medina elementary done by Aug. 2017
GIBSON COUNTY, Tenn. — Since there was no more room to expand on the existing schools, the Gibson County Special School District made the unanimous decision Thursday night to build a new elementary school in Medina.
Once the building is complete, third and fourth graders will be moved from the middle school to the elementary. The new building will have 60 classrooms and be able to accommodate 1,200 students and is projected to be ready by August 2017.
“We needed a new building,” Director of Schools Eddie Pruett said. “The board felt like we want to build big enough to accommodate any potential growth we would see in the future.”
There will be a tax increase, but school district officials say a new school is in the best interest of their students.
