Hearing delayed on Clarksdale principal cheating charges
CLINTON, Miss. (AP) – Mississippi education officials have delayed a hearing on administrative charges against a Clarksdale elementary school principal.
The hearing on charges that Heidelberg Elementary School Principal Lowanda Tyler-Jones took part in cheating on standardized tests at her school in 2013 is now set for March 7, not Jan. 18.
Tyler-Jones sought the delay in the hearing before the state teacher licensing commission.
The Mississippi Department of Education wants to revoke her principal’s license.
The state started investigating the Clarksdale School District in May 2014 after The Clarion-Ledger reported claims that teachers at Heidelberg improperly guided students to correct answers on tests.
Two teachers were charged earlier. Frances Smith-Kemp gave up her teaching license for two years, while the state’s teacher licensure commission suspended the license of Tetra Winters for five years.
